Book “Pride and Prejudice”
presented by Jason

Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, published anonymously in 3 volumes in 1813.

The narrative, the author titled “First impressions”, describes the clash between Elizabeth Bennet, the daughter of a country gentleman and Fitzwilliam Darcy a rich an aristocratic landowner.

She reserves the convention of the first impression. “pride” of rank and fortune and “prejudice” against Elizabeth’s inferiority of family hold Darcy aloof, while Elizabeth is equally fired both by the pride of self-respect and by prejudice against Darcy’s fashion. Ultimately, they come together in love and self-understanding.
·
A 19th-century engraving of Jane Austen, likely derived from a portrait by her sister, Cassandra …

Personal opinion:   I would like to read it because anyway is a love story also is a best seller through the time.  And is made in different versions o movies, I find this story
interesting.

Analysis or Connection between literary work and historical background

It is incredible the courage that this girl had, Malala. There was also another
girl whose name was Rawua, she was also killed, because they consider that
any feminist is a threat to them. Even if you paint your fingers, they can be cut.
This law called sharia, really is a violator of human rights, because women
cannot even laugh in public.

This video will explain you what is a Sharia Law.

Summary

This book starts with the story of Malala´s father and how the grandfather of her influences her father to be an eloquent man.   Then about Malala Yousafzai was born in the town of Mingora, Pakistan to a poor but prominent Muslim family, headed by Ziauddin Yousafzai. Growing up, Ziauddin encouraged Malala to study literature and rhetoric, and to express herself freely. From an early age, Malala was conscious of the inferior position of women in her society: she was especially conscious of the difference between her mother, Tor Pekai, a woman with no formal education, and her father, a man with considerable training in writing, poetry, and oration. At the age of 11, Malala began writing a diary for a BBC blog, thanks to contacts her father had established. She also made an appearance in a New York Times documentary on life in Pakistan under the Taliban. Following these two projects, Malala became increasingly active in the media, in spite of her young age. She gave interviews in which she criticized the rise of the violent religious extremist group, the Taliban, in her country. In the fall of 2012, Malala was shot by a Taliban soldier. She was treated in Pakistani military hospitals, and afterwards, thanks to her international fame, taken to superior medical facilities in Birmingham, England. Malala made a full recovery from her bullet wounds, and continued to actively campaign for women’s rights and education. In 2014, she became the youngest recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize in its 114-year history.

Explain the reasons why you liked it and why you recommend it.

I have always believed that, if you can make a better world by including everyone.   Think without discrimination, it seems is like a dream come true.

You may think I am a dreamer, as Jhon Lenon song said.  But I think this could be possible, in the way all of us take an example of this such a brave girl, who gave us the example or a model to follow.
She said “One teacher, one pen, can change the world”.

Since we think education is in our hands, we will change the reality.

All who pretend to be a teacher should read this book.

What were your expectations before reading the book?
I thought that I was going to read just only a biography, but at the end I noticed, was more than that, because it gave me the curiosity to look for more information.   And a appreciate now my vocation.   I really love what I do, because as a Teacher I touch their lives in a positive way.

How do you feel after reading the book?

It makes me feel committed to what I do, it makes me think that        each teacher must go beyond their own vocation.
This book made me feel like a Heroine, challenged because I would like to project myself in the principal character of the history, I could think If I were Malala, what would I do?  And I respect the right for the education and more than that, those people who didn´t have the same opportunities or the level of poverty in the lowest, of course is unfear because they couldn´t have the same opportunities than the other who have them.   Special those women than men treat like animals.

Were your expectations/predictions confirmed?

I never thought that she could survive with that shoot. It was a miracle.  And besides that, I have another perspective of Muslims people, not all are equals.  Take out of my mind these stereotypes that we think when we talk about Oriental People.

Add any other comment to your work, that you feel necessary.

I would like to know her a have a conference alive.
And is fantastic that she is a great speaker in English, I admire no just only for the brave person she is, the great family she has, and how all these environment they just changed into positivism, to change the reality of the family, and why there is a fear of Taliban’s , because she was able to put them shake.  Only because she doesn´t show them afraid.

This story starts on October 9, 2012, Malala Yousafzai was a teenager girl, she makes her way to school by bus.   While this is happening, she thinks about how her hometown of Mingora, Pakistan has changed in the last 10 years, and how the Taliban (a radical Islamist group), continue to defend the woman´s rights among that is the education.
Suddenly the bus stops, and a man get into the bus.   He asked: “Who is Malala?”, but she was someone who didn´t hide, her presence was obvious:  She was not wearing her burga (female veil).

Then the man raises a gun and shoots Malala in the head.

Then appears some words about Malala´s birth. When she was born, few people in her community  bothered to congratulate her Parents, Ziauddin and Tor Pekai,  because the birth of his girl is seen as a failure on the part  of the parents.   She is Pashtun, is an ethnic group situates mostly in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

She lives in the Swat Valley a beautiful part of Northwestern Pakistan. She also is a devout Muslim, and has been all her life.

Muslim belief are 6 principals:
1.     Belief in Allah (one God)
2.    Angels
3.    In Holy Books (Quran)
4.    Prophets.
5.    Day of Judgment
6.    God´s predestination.

Since she was a girl, she was conscious of the restrictions being placed on her about her sex.

Malala´s father Ziauddin, is a charismatic, and educated man.  He grew up studying poetry and literature, and earned his family´s respect by winning several prestigious debating competitions, even though he was stutterer when he was a little boy, he was motivated by his father.  In the 1980´s when Pakistan fell under the control of the brutal of dictator General Zia, Ziauddin founded a series of schools that offered education to girls as well as boys.
Many Muslims in Pakistan refused to believe in a woman´s right to an education. Ziauddin became succeed and he married Tor Pekai for love which is irregular in Pashtun culture.  He also advocates for 3 speeches: 1, Education, woman´s rights, and education.  Malala grew up listened all these speeches.

As a child she participated in speaking and debating competitions she gradually worked her way up to become the most talented speaker.
When Malala was young she noticed that her community was so poor. So, then she begged her father to allow more children to enter his school on scholarship, and Ziauddin agreed.  Her parents showed her how to be a pious Muslim.  Despite the believe of Islamic Faith, Malala noticed that Pakistan’s would cite Islam when they belittled women and forbade them from learning.  So, she made her own interpretation of her own beliefs, whereby women could educate themselves while also being perfectly faithful Muslims.

Following the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, Malala´s community became violent and religiously extreme.   The organization called the Taliban rose to prominence in the area, headed by Maulana Fazlullah.  The Taliban offered a strict, repressive interpretation of Islam, whereby women should have remained covered by a burqa in public, and certainly not attend school.

Claiming that all other religious were worthless, the Taliban grew up the enormous Buddha carved into the side of the Swat Valley.  This horrified Malala and her family.  In 2,007Pakistan´s situation deteriorates still further when the Taliban assassinate Benazir Bhutto, the female prime minister, and an important role model for Malala, (Who is ten at that time), and aftermath old the assassination, the Taliban becomes more violent blowing up schools blowing up schools across Pakistan that offer education to girls as well as boys.  Ziauddin uses his influences to write series of articles against the Taliban for their cruelty and nonsensical interpretation of the Quran (Islam´s holy book)

In 2,009 Ziauddin uses his contacts with the BBC to arrange for Malala to write a series of diary entries, about her life under the Taliban.

Malala assumes a false name for protection, and her diaries become widely read a both Pakistan and the Western world.   Meanwhile, threaten to attack all women´s school that don´t close.    Reluctantly, Ziauddin, shuts down his school, too.   And Malala is forced to stay home from school, too.

Then the Taliban´s Head Fazlullah decides to allow girls to attend school, proving that Ziauddin´s protest and articles have been somewhat successful.   Malala, encouraged by the success of her diaries, makes a small appearance in a documentary about the Taliban directed by an American journalist Adam Ellick.

In 2,009, the Taliban enter a long war with the Pakistani government. Malala, along with the rest of her family, is forced to leave her home in the Swat Valley.
Ziauddin takes his family to Islamabad, for three months, and when they return, they´re relieved to find their home more or less intact.

Same year, Malala continues giving interviews in which she condemns the Taliban for interfering with her education, and in 2010, she takes a trip to Islamabad, accompanied by Shiza Shahid a journalist and friend of her father, she takes the trip to Islamabad.

In 2,011, following the death of Osama Bin Laden, Malala learns that she´s been nominated for an International award recognizing commitment to children´s rights.

While she does not win, she´s nominated for futher humanitarian awards in recognition of her broadcast and diary, and wins several of them.  She meets important head of state, including the Prime Minister of Pakistan, and her reputation grows, she continues oppose the Taliban.  They threaten to kill Malala if she persists in her denunciations.

After that comes full-circle to Malala´s shooting.  She rushed to a military hospital, where a skilled surgeon, Colonel Junaid, tries to save her life. He succeeds in performing a difficult  brain surgery on Malala, it seems to be she was the first who recovers, it takes 15 to 18 months to recover.

While her parents and friends frantically wait for news, 2 British doctors , Dr. Javid Kayani and Dr. Fiona Reynolds.

Doctors insist that Malala is in danger of losing her life.   They insist that the facilities are sub part (below average), General Kayani , and important  government official, agrees to arranged for  to be transported to superior  medical facilities hospital in Birminghan, England.   Parents left behind, while the Pakistan government delays their travel for fear that they´ll try to remain in England.
While she waits in the hospital, Malala learns that she´s become globally famous following her shooting.   Celebrities send her flower, and other humanitarians, inspired by her example, speak out about Taliban´s brutality.
The book ends in 2003.   Malala´s family has taken up residence in England. Ziauddin works as a consultant for both Pakistan´s educational system and a committee on education for the United Nations.   Malala attends school in Birmingham, focusing on her studies despite her enormous fame.
She feels little uncomfortable in her new country, no least because her classmates think of her as a celebrity.   Malala has emerged from her shooting stronger and more determined to fight injustice than ever.
At the end, she reminds readers that they are lucky to be alive and to loved by God.  “They couldn´t kill the global crusade for education and equality”.
